Scott's night job and Christmas 2010

Doesn't he make a handsome Santa? We bought this for a lip sync we did at my parents' house right after Christmas. He really wore it! The kids especially loved it.

I love the looks on everyone's faces. So funny and memorable. I believe Krysta has this look on her face due to the instructions to not open presents until after the pictures were taken.

Or she's just happier with her mama....

ha ha.

Can I open another one, please Daddy? Please Daddy? Now please? Is it my turn yet?

Tyler got a paper airplane book for Christmas. He really loved it. He made all of the paper airplanes in the book (at least a hundred) by the end of February.
We had a great Christmas. There are no pictures of Russell because he slept right through it all. But those of us who were awake enjoyed watching eachother open presents.

Tyler: What's the swine flu?
Mom: It's what your class has talked about at school. They call it the H1N1 virus.
Tyler: What's the H1N1 virus?
Mom: It's a virus you can get that makes you really sick.
Tyler: No. What does H1N1 spell?
Mom: It doesn't spell anything. It's just letters and numbers together that make up the name of the virus.
Tyler: No Mom. What do the letters say if you put them together?
Mom: (repeats what she's already said)
Tyler: No! Fine! I'll just sound it out myself! Hhh...won...Nnn..won. I figured it out. Hwon-Nwon!

Mommy: Tyler, are you feeling alright? Do you hurt anywhere? (He was sick with croup at this time.)
(Tyler points to his heart)
Mommy: Your heart hurts? (Imagine my surprise at his answer.)
Tyler: Yes, Mommy. My heart is broken. (He really was genuinely sad.)
Mommy: How did it break?
Tyler: I don't know. I guess somebody else did it. Someone broke my heart!
Mommy: What should we do to help you feel better?
Tyler: I should stay away from whoever broke it. It'll feel better soon, Mommy. Don't worry.

Please don't be offended by the following, but I thought it was too cute not to put in.
Tyler: Okay, boys and girls, today we are going to talk about how baby dinosaurs are made. Are you listening?
Emalyn: Yes, teacher, we're all listening. (Just to clarify, they were the only two in the room.)
Tyler: Well the baby dinosaur is inside the mommy dinosaur. Then the mommy dinosaur needs to go poop. And it's really really hard. (He imitates lots of grunting noises.) But finally the poop comes out and it's a dinosaur egg! Inside the egg is the baby dinosaur.

Fun conversations with our kids

We've been trying to work on our table manners with our kids. So last week, when Emalyn got up out of her chair during dinner for the fifth time, I reminded her that she should say "Excuse me." Her answer:"Mom, some people say excuse me. I don't."

Aunt Amy: Heidi, I'm so glad you came to our house. Tyler and Emalyn had so much fun with you.
Heidi: It was really hard to come here. It's a long drive. It made my bum flat! Aunt Amy: Really?
Heidi: Yes! And it's going to happen again on the way home!!

Grandma Linda: I'm making cupcakes.
Emalyn: Oooh, yummy. That would make my tummy feel so happy!

Mommy: Emalyn, do you want to take your coat off? It's kind of hot in here.
Emalyn: No, Mommy, I not hot. But my coat is. Can I take it off?

Mommy: Emalyn, did you drop your food on the floor?Emalyn: No, mommy. It fell by itself.

Emalyn: Mommy, I have an idea! Let's go to the park!Mommy: I think that's a great idea, but it's covered in snow. We can't find the slides and the swings.
Emalyn: I have another great idea! Let's get a shovel and dig it out!
Emalyn said this in the Dr's office, while the dr was still there. He was trying really hard by the end not to laugh out loud.

Tyler: "Daddy, Daddy, are you ok?"
Emalyn: "Daddy, do you have owies?"
Daddy: "No, I'm alright."
Conversation just after Tyler and Emalyn dropped the phone on the floor while talking to Daddy.
